When to apply lime and fertilizer
Nearly half of all the fertilizer used in Europe each year is bought by farmers during the rush of the spring planting season. As a result, it is often difficult for the fertilizer industry to meet customer demands during this 6 to 8 week period.
A better planing of spreading would have a numerous advantages. Here you can better understand the chemical reactions of lime and fertilizer in soil in order to know when it is recommended to apply lime, nitrogen, phophorus and potassium.
PH level and lime requirements
Crops differ in their sensitivity to pH. In addition, the optimum use of fertilisers containing nitrogen and phosphorus is obtained when the soil pH is between 6.2 and 7.2. The availability of some trace elements, especially manganese and boron is decreased when pH is above seven.
